A case for Mother Earth

A case for Mother Earth

You know the saying “You don’t know how much strength you got until is your only chance.”?! Or imagine how much you would fight for your life in a matter of life death situation? So does the earth when it can feel that we as humans are endangering it everyday. Look at the warming temperatures causing the oceans to be warm and as a result all weathers are always at their extreme. Those natural disasters are a cry from Mother Earth to us. So I hope everybody is listening because by now nobody can deny Global Warming or Climate Change!

The issue about these warming conditions is that the changes in Earth’s climate have different effects in different areas of the world. Some places will warmer or colder than others. Some will receive more rainfall while other receive little or none at all causing droughts. And the earth is one big network so the imbalance in these will eventually affect everyone, Regional changes in temperature and precipitation are having impacts on people and ecosystems. Animals that are not able to tolerate changes in climate and are not able to move into new areas are threatened by extinction.

From the melting of the poles to the weakening of the ocean currents that carry warm water from the tropics into the North Atlantic, every day the planet sends stronger signals of a climate crisis. The world risks global warming of beyond 1.5°C (and even 2°C) this century, unless we achieve deep reductions in CO2 and other GHG emissions. We are faced with an increase in the frequency and intensity of hot extremes, marine heatwaves, heavy precipitation, agricultural and ecological droughts in some regions, and proportion of intense tropical cyclones, as well as reductions in Arctic sea ice, snow cover and permafrost.

With these risks in mind, it is essential to strengthen public policies at all levels – from local to international levels – to achieve the transition to net zero and adapt to the impacts of climate change. Some of the ways are…

  1. Countries need better tools to tackle climate change
  2. More countries, subnational entities, organisations, and businesses need to adopt net-zero targets for 2050 or sooner
  3. It is vital that long-term climate strategies are developed and enshrined in law

Mother Earth definitely needs saving and we are part of the problem and so we are part pf solution. Without it earth life as we know it ceases to exist because our livelihoods depend on us having an earth to live in. So be a dear and be part of the solution by #SavingMotherEarth first in your home because it’s one pf those things you got to practise what you preach!
